The brand “Dandy” originated in Denmark and was brought to Zimbabwe by Jorgen Mogensen who founded Dandy Zimbabwe (Private) Limited. Dandy Zimbabwe was the first major Private Investment initiative after Zimbabwe’s Independence in 1980 and the factory was built and equipped to Danish standards at Norton, some 40 kilometres from Harare.
Production commenced in 1982 and high quality bubble gum and chewing gum is still manufactured at the original site.
The success of Dandy was built on manufacturing a range of bubble gums and nearly 45 years on our famous twist wrapped bubble gum includes strawberry flavour (locally referred to as Bobby), tutti frutti flavour (Funny) and Banana flavour.
It is common to see Dandy twist pieces being sold in the informal market via tuck shops and on the streets by local vendors.
Interestingly single pieces of twist bubble gum is well used as a source of change at till points through-out the retail trade and tuck shops and vendors trays around Zimbabwe.
The Dandy Factory produces a sugar sweetened and sugar free chewing gum range under the Dandy Brand,for the local retail market, and the Beechies Brand for the Regional Market. These products are packaged in a stack format for the sugar sweetened range and a blister format for the sugar free range of gum.
A combination of well-trained Zimbabwean staff, modern manufacturing equipment, reliable supplies of raw materials, high standards of local packaging, efficient route to market and the on-going implementation of new technological developments ensures a high quality range of products is readily available country wide and to regional countries around Zimbabwe.
